Emergency Housing Assistance Program

The Emergency Housing Assistance Program provides assistance to low-income homeowners to fix roofs, porches and heating units that are in serious disrepair. You are eligible for this program if you own and live in a 1-4 unit building in Chicago and have no other means to pay the repairs.

Roof and Porch Repair/Replacement

If you live in the City of Chicago and are in need of roof and porch repair/replacement, call LUCHA for information and a checklist of required documents. Once you have collected all the required documents, please call LUCHA again and schedule a one-to-one appointment with a counselor for pre-qualification for the program. Roof and porch repair and replacement will be performed between April 1st and October 31st.

Heating Unit Repair/Replacement

If you live in the City of Chicago and are in need of heating unit repair/replacement, call LUCHA for a package of information, that includes an application and checklist of required documents. Once you have collected all the required documents, please call LUCHA again and schedule a one-to-one appointment with a counselor for pre-qualification for the program. Heating unit repair and replacement will be performed between November 1st and March 31st.

Senior Citizen Home Repair Program

The Senior Citizen Home Repair program provides enabling devices and limited non-emergency home improvements for low-income senior citizens, 60 years of age or older, at no cost to a homeowner living within the City of Chicago.

The program focuses on three major areas- accessibility, safety/security and weatherizing related work. Services may include door repair, installation of smoke detectors, grab bars and /or ramps.

Homeowners or renters can be the head of household or the spouse. When a renter is approved for assistance, the landlord shall certify that he or she will not increase the rent as a direct result Senior Citizen Home Repair improvements.
