Humboldt Park Residence

Humboldt Park Residence, constducted in 1994, was the first Single Room Occupancy development built in Chicago in over 50 years. When this project was conceived, the only Single Room Occupancy housing available in Chicago was in older, corridor type buildings that generally had small efficiency units with very small kitchenettes, if any at all. LUCHA rejected this type of arrangement and opted instead to give each tenant his or her own safe and usable kitchen. LUCHA was able to acquire the lot directly west of the building, which has been developed into a community garden green space.
